God’s Provision

I felt the need to share a story today.  I’m not going to share any pictures (you’ll understand why in a little bit) but I hope that doesn’t deter you from reading this!

We have barn cats at our house and most of them do their job quite well of keeping the mice, mole, bird population to a minimum.  Our mama, Sassy, delivered a cute little litter of 4 just over a week ago.  She had one peach tiger, one gray calico, one gray tiger, and one mostly black kitten.  Cute as a button, they are!!

Anyway, she does a fantastic job caring for her babies and so we don’t check on them all that often.  We gave her a basket of rags, tucked her babies into it, and put them under the porch up against the house for shelter from the fall wind and rain.

Earlier this week my son went to check on them and came in to tell me that one kitten had been crying.  He discovered that the kitten had gotten it’s paw twisted up into the frayed threads of a rag and it looked really bad.  He brought the kitten in and sure enough, his whole leg was a mangled mess.  Every time he rolled over or tried to crawl around his leg got wound tighter into the threads.  So, we got out some scissors and pain-stakingly  cut away each little thread until his leg was free.  We put the kitten back with the others and Sassy immediately came to offer him some comfort.  The baby immediately began to nurse.

A few hours later, I checked on him again.  Although very swollen, his entire leg had untwisted and looked nearly back to the normal position of a kitten leg and he appeared to be moving it!  We were thrilled!  The daily vigil of checking on the little guy began.  The next day his paw was still very swollen but Sassy had been keeping it stimulated by licking it continuously while she nursed.  We were hopeful that we had removed the twisted mess of threads just in time!

However, God had a different plan for this little determined kitten.  By day 3, the paw had begun to shrivel and die.  The little kitty continued to nurse and was doing amazingly well despite his injury!  His mama continued to care for his paw and leg.  As the paw shriveled, his leg got a bit more swollen but no other signs  infection or difficulty.

Today, I went and checked on him and his paw was gone.  His mama had ever so carefully removed the part that had died and was now caring for what remained!  He continues to nurse, he is strong and can crawl as good or better than his siblings with the 3 good paws that he has left!

We  will continue to monitor his health and progress but in the mean time. . . .. .

It dawned on me that  this is a perfect (yet slightly gruesome)  example of God’s Provision for each and every one of us!!

Matthew 6:26
New International Version (NIV)
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

2 Peter 1:3
New International Version (NIV)
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

Philippians 1:6
New International Version (NIV)
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 46:3-4
New Living Translation (NLT)
I have cared for you since you were born. Yes, I carried you before you were born. I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you.

God is Good!!  All the Time!!
