Sunday’s Comin’!

A long time ago, 1991, I spent the summer in Philadelphia, PA.  Yes, rural mom was a rural girl back then with her mind set on saving the world.  I didn’t save the world that summer but I did come to learn that saving the entire world was a little bit more than little me could handle.

Anyway, I lived at a very charismatic church and worked with the children in their community.  On Sunday’s, worship started at 10 and often times did not get done until 2.  It was filled with singing, praise, worship, and preaching.  Often times the pastor’s message would revolve around simple phrases that were repeated over and over again throughout the 4 hours worship “hour”.  I remember one Sunday, the phrase was “Sunday’s Comin'”.

Some of you may wonder what in the world a two word sentance  like that might have to do with your Christian walk with Jesus- you are aren’t you. . . . (-;  The whole idea behind Sunday’s Comin’ is that no matter how rough Monday- Saturday are on your spiritual fuel tank, Sunday’s Comin so you can refill.  No matter how bad your life is right now, Jesus is working ahead of us to prepare for new life when he calls us home.  Sunday’s Comin!

I don’t know for sure which passage of scripture Pastor Brown referred to back then but I found a passage in 2 Corinthians 5: 1-5

. . . we know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrection bodies in heaven- God-made, not handmade- and we’ll never have to relocate our “tents” again.  Sometimes we can hardly wait to move- and so we cry out in frustation.  Compared to what’s coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we’re tired of it!  We’ve been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies!  The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of  what’s ahead.  He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less.

No matter what your life holds right now, God has much greater things planned for you!  Sunday’s Comin!
